Seems like Tommy Hilfiger will not be joining Sophie Theallet’s boycott of the future first lady.

“I think Melania is a very beautiful woman, and I think any designer should be proud to dress her,” Hilfiger told Women’s Wear Daily in response to the French fashion designer’s declaration that she wouldn’t dress or associate with Mrs. Trump. Hilfiger added, “Ivanka is equally as beautiful and smart, although she wears her own clothes. I don’t think people should become political about it. Everyone was very happy to dress Michelle [Obama] as well. I think they look great in the clothes. You’re not gonna get much more beautiful than Ivanka or Melania.”

Theallet, a immigrant to the United States, encouraged her fellow designers to follow suit. “As one who celebrates and strives for diversity, individual freedom and respect for all lifestyles, I will not participate in dressing or associating in any way with the next First Lady,” she shared in a statement last week. “The rhetoric of racism, sexism, and xenophobia unleashed by her husband’s presidential campaign are incompatible with the shared values we live by.” Theallet acknowledged the fact that mixing business and politics “is not wise.” However, she added, “as a family-owned company, our bottom line is not just about money. We value our artistic freedom and always humbly seek to contribute to a more humane, conscious and ethical way to create in this world.”

Hilfiger has a history with the Trump family. He cast Ivanka in a Tommy Jeans campaign as a teenager that featured celebrity offspring Kimberly Stewart, Kidada Jones, and Balthazar Getty. “She was a doll, she was a sweetheart,” Hilfiger told Yahoo Style of working with the businesswoman back then. “She is today. More sophisticated, more grown up. She’s an amazing girl.”

Additionally, a week after the election, Hilfiger was spotted at Trump Tower in New York City where President-elect Donald Trump has been actively holding transition meetings (although who he was visiting at the building remains unclear).
