Too many cats in BV
Eganville – There are too many stray cats in Bonnechere Valley Township and the issue has come up at Bonnechere Valley council again. However, this time it is not in the village of Eganville but in the rural areas.
“My neighbour came by the house terribly upset there are too many cats on Bonnechere Lodge Road,” said Councillor Merv Buckwald. “I know there is nothing we can do about it.”
However, he wanted to bring it to council.
“I don’t know what we can do about it,” he said. “There are cats. There are cats all over.”
Councillor Tracey Sanderson said Whiskers and Alley Cats have spent a lot of time trying to rescue cats. She said the township could possibly help the issue as well.
“Many other municipalities are hosting spay and neuter clinics,” she said, adding there might be a cost.
“We were supposed to host one this fall but Pembroke stepped in and they got it first,” CAO Annette Gilchrist said.
There is the possibility of having one in the spring, she said.
Coun. Sanderson said she would look into the possibility of a clinic this fall.
“That is not the entire solution, but it is a big part of it,” she said.
