After seemingly nonstop runway shows across New York, London, Milan, and Paris — fashion month has finally come to a close.

This season, strong tailored separates continue to dominate the collections. This comes at an especially poignant moment: Pantsuits have become a powerful symbol of strong, independent women, and March also happens to be Women’s History Month. Similarly, as the #MeToo movement continues to reverberate, women are fighting for their right to wear what they choose, whether it’s something that’s considered sexy or conservative. This idea has been reflected in the choices of many designers in Paris, who showcased styles that veered from sexy leather looks to boyish, utilitarian apparel and tailored suits.

One of the top trends season over season has been tailored suits and separates. In Paris, brands like Dior, Altuzarra, Haider Ackerman, and Alexander McQueen upgraded traditional black and gray tailored workwear sets with pops of color, graphic prints, and stripes. This fall, ditch your plain old version for a suit that reveals your true personality. Now, you’ll finally have the option to find one that matches.

Leather is taking over this fall, and the runways show how you can wear it both to work and on a date. Hermès and Lanvin prove that sleek leather skirts make the best office ensembles when styled with a turtleneck, blazer, or button-up shirt. Leather tops with unexpected details like eyelets can add a feminine touch to an otherwise heavy-duty fabric.

Pair it with a midi skirt for the perfect date-night look. You can also take a cue from Dior and upgrade your existing leather jackets and shorts with simple accessories like a belt and newsboy cap.

Hoods, balaclavas, headscarves, hijabs, and turbans were all spotted throughout fashion month. In some cases, they were controversial, and were denounced as cultural appropriation. In Paris, designers similarly debuted models with hoods, although it appears that they used them as practical winter accessories instead. This trend is an easy one to mimic. Just grab your favorite hoodie out of your closet, layer it under a leather jacket, as the label Off-White did, and cinch it tight around your face.

The biggest breakout color from Paris is cobalt blue. The deep, rich hue vibrated on the PFW runways, making appearances at Maison Margiela, Balmain, Akris, and Chanel. At its core, blue symbolizes peace, serenity, and calmness. Perhaps designers this season were using it to symbolize the need for peace and tranquility around the world.
