Topshop's T-shirt for vegans has a major problem

Topshop is selling a T-shirt celebrating the vegan lifestyle — on the outside, at least.

Priced at $40, the pink Vegan Dino top from clothing brand Tee & Cake is flying off the shelves, with just one size currently still in stock online. The shirt features an image of an herbivorous dinosaur and the word “vegan,” proving that plant-based diets have been popular for, oh, give or take 145 million years.

But as The Sun reports, there’s just one little problem: the label. In a nod to its name, Tee & Cake garments come with labels bearing a cake recipe — and it’s not vegan.

Shoppers were quick to point out the inclusion of nonvegan-friendly eggs and butter on the T-shirt’s label, with reactions ranging from amused, to confused, to peeved.

In a statement to The Sun, Topshop clarified that no offense was intended to vegans.

“The T-shirt is a brand that we stock at Topshop called Tee & Cake,” the retailer said. “The label is across all of the T-shirts in the line. As the brand is called Tee & Cake it has a whimsical recipe in the label. The label is nothing to do with what’s on the front of the T-shirt.”

It’s nothing that a Sharpie — and perhaps a nice silken tofu imitation cheesecake — can’t fix.
