Trump asks why FBI didn't break into Democratic headquarters

President Trump lashed out at the FBI on Sunday morning for failing to search Democratic National Committee headquarters while investigating Hillary Clinton’s emails, an investigation that ended more than two years ago. He compared it to the treatment of his longtime lawyer Michael Cohen, whose office and residences were searched by agents in April.

Trump called Cohen a “Rat,” but blamed his treachery on his treatment by the FBI.

“Remember, Michael Cohen only became a ‘Rat’ after the FBI did something which was absolutely unthinkable & unheard of until the Witch Hunt was illegally started. They BROKE INTO AN ATTORNEY’S OFFICE! Why didn’t they break into the DNC to get the Server, or Crooked’s office?” Trump wrote.

Contrary to Trump’s claims, prosecutors in New York obtained a search warrant after receiving a referral from Robert Mueller, the special counsel in the Russia probe. The search was not directly linked to the investigation into Moscow’s interference with the 2016 presidential election, but was based on specific information uncovered by Mueller’s investigators, including communications between Cohen and Trump about hush-money payments by the then-presidential candidate to women who claimed they had affairs with him. Prosecutors must meet a high bar to obtain a warrant to target communications between an attorney and his or her client.

On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge William Pauley in New York sentenced Cohen to three years in prison for various crimes to which he has pleaded guilty, including campaign-finance violations for the payments to women and making false statements to Congress about plans to build another Trump Tower in Moscow.

Earlier on Sunday, Trump took to Twitter to berate one of his other favorite targets, NBC, insisting that the “REAL scandal” is NBC News’ bias against conservatives and that “Saturday Night Live” is a Democratic spin machine. The late night comedy show just aired a parody of “It’s a Wonderful Life,” which imagines how life would be better for everyone in Trump’s inner circle had he not been elected president.

“It is all nothing less than unfair news coverage and Dem commercials,” Trump said. “Should be tested in courts, can’t be legal? Only defame & belittle! Collusion?”

Trump also attacked former FBI agents Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, who exchanged many anti-Trump messages while investigating Clinton’s use of a private email server while secretary of state.

“So where are all the missing Text messages between fired FBI agents Peter S and the lovely Lisa Page, his lover. Just reported that they have been erased and wiped clean,” Trump wrote. “What an outrage as the totally compromised and conflicted Witch Hunt moves ever so slowly forward. Want them!”

The Justice Department’s Office of Inspector General released a report on Thursday that said the FBI did not intentionally erase the anti-Trump texts that Strzok and Page exchanged. The report blamed the missing text messages on faulty technology that should have saved this data.
