Trump legal team will ‘get their clock cleaned’ by Supreme Court in challenging Pennsylvania election results, official says
Pennsylvania’s lieutenant governor, a Democrat, has warned that Donald Trump’s lawyers would “get their clock cleaned” in the Supreme Court if they attempt to overturn the commonwealth’s electoral results.
"I hope they do [appeal to the Supreme Court]," Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman told CNN on Saturday. "And they're gonna get their clock cleaned there, the way they did here in Pennsylvania."
President-elect Joe Biden was projected to win Pennsylvania and its 20 Electoral College votes after garnering more than 80,000 votes over Donald Trump.
But that hasn’t stopped Mr Trump and members of the Republican Party from attempting to halt the certification of election results by making claims of massive voter fraud, which they’ve yet to prove in a court of law.
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court dismissed a lawsuit on Saturday put forth by Republican Representative Mike Kelly and other members of his party. The lawsuit was the latest attempt to stop the certification of the election results, which the Supreme Court ruled against.
On Friday, a three-judge panel with the 3rd US Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia unanimously rejected the Trump campaign’s bid to overturn a lower court's ruling that would stop votes from being certified in the commonwealth.
Jenna Ellis, one of Mr Trump’s lawyers, said the campaign would now take the case to the Supreme Court, but whether the country’s highest court will actually hear the case remains uncertain.
“The activist judicial machinery in Pennsylvania continues to cover up the allegations of massive fraud,” she wrote on Twitter. “On to SCOTUS!”
Mr Fetterman, when speaking to CNN, said that everything the Trump campaign has done so far has not changed any aspect of the election results, and he didn’t see that altering with the campaign’s latest request to appeal in the Supreme Court.
"All of the snake handling that they had here at the Ramada ... didn't change anything," he said, referring to a “hearing” held by state Republicans in Gettysburg last week. "No matter what they do, it's not going to change the outcome."
The lieutenant governor added that the attempts by Mr Trump and his party were “only meant to destroy the America franchise."
