Donald Trump railed against mail-in ballots all day on Monday, claiming new legislation in Nevada would make a Republican win “impossible” while calling for New York to re-do several close congressional primary elections. The state has struggled to count mail-in and absentee ballots more than a month after Election Day.

After Nancy Pelosi attacked Dr Deborah Birx for working with Trump, the coronavirus taskforce coordinator warned the US pandemic was now more widespread. That prompted Trump to lash out, calling Dr Birx “pathetic”, He defended the criticism, he had "a lot of respect for her" while also complaining the media was making him look bad.

That look went from bad to worse after several investigations into people and companies in Trump’s orbit were announced, including the Manhattan district attorney suggesting the Trump Organisation was under investigation for bank and insurance fraud. Trump called it another Democrat "witch hunt".

Four senior aides, meanwhile, were issued subpoenas by the House over Trump’s firing of State Department inspector general Steve Linick as Deutsch Bank launched an internal investigation into a transaction between one of its bankers and a company part-owned by Jared Kushner.

And it was a wild day for TikTok as Trump set a deadline for the Chinese app to sell to a US company or be banned in the country. The company confirmed it may move its HQ, possibly to London, amid the fight with Trump as the president said any sale of the company should see a “very large percentage” go to the US Treasury.
