Fox’s new hit show The Orville, from creator and star Seth MacFarlane, pairs Star Trek’s sleek look and MacFarlane’s unique style of raunchy Family Guy brand of comedy. MacFarlane plays Ed Mercer, the captain of the Orville. Adrianne Palicki plays Kelly Grayson, Mercer’s second in command and his ex-wife who cheated on him. The Orville is a part of Earth’s exploratory interstellar fleet and it encounters crazy adventures along the way.
The Twitterverse has met The Orville with mostly open arms, comparing the show to a ‘better Star Trek’ and of course enjoying Stars Wars references within the show like any good sci-fi geek should.
The makeup and puppetry alone make The Orville worth watching and although the show’s first episode was met with less than favorable reviews, the ratings tied the highest rated launches from last season. With The Orville moving to Thursdays, we’ll have to wait and see how it does in its new time slot.
The Orville now airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on Fox.
