New York Fashion week featured a record-breaking number of curvy models. However, international fashion weeks that have followed haven’t been so friendly to plus-size women — until the Alexander McQueen broke the mold.

Creative director Sarah Burton sent out a bunch of frilly and floral looks for her recent show, with two curvy models, Eline Lykke and Betsy Teske, being cast to wear select designs.

So I just walked for Alexander McQueen. Thanks so much to the amazing team! Loved working with you!!!

Lykke took to Instagram to applaud the inclusive decision. She wrote, “Thank you so much @alexandermcqueen for having me in your show at Paris Fashion week!! I’m so grateful and happy! And Thank you for changing the game for Curvy models!!”

As she admitted to Vogue, she actually cried from joy when she found out she booked the gig. “I was, and still [am], so overjoyed,” she said.

McQueen casting director Jess Hallett said the decision came about as a result of the collection’s theme which “was all about sisterhood and celebrating femininity.”

The London-based brand is the first company to feature curvy women during Paris Fashion Week. This isn’t all that surprising considering in the Fashion Spot‘s most recent diversity report, only two plus-size models walked during the same event in February (and that was for H&M Studio).
