These two products have been a game changer for my acne-prone skin

Everyone knows you’re supposed to clean your makeup brushes, but I’ve definitely been guilty of letting them sit for a few months before begrudgingly giving them a rinse.

I’m someone with problematic skin, predominantly in the form of adult acne. A few months ago, I was whining about my spots to a friend when she recommended that I should wash my makeup brushes every week to get rid of the bacteria on them that I had been spreading around my face.

During a trip to Sephora, I was recommended two products - Detox: Deep-Cleaning Brush Shampoo and Polish Up Silicone Brush Cleansing Pad, both from the Sephora collection.

Later that day I lathered up my brushes with the shampoo and scrubbed them against the cleansing pad, and was immediately impressed -and slightly horrified at how much makeup came out of them; particularly my foundation brush.

Since then I’ve adopted a schedule of cleaning my brushes every week and I’ve noticed my skin has cleared up quite a bit. I still get the occasional hormonal breakout on my chin, but I’ve stopped getting spots on random places like my forehead or upper lip.

Others have similar rave reviews about these two products:

“I have to say, I have tried many brush cleaners over the years and completely gave up on them! I just resorted to using shampoo because I couldn’t find anything that worked any better...until now,” said one happy customer about the brush shampoo. “On a whim, I decided to try this brush cleaner out and I am so glad I did! It seriously does most of the work for you, a few pumps on the brush and it seeps right though the bristles. The smell is also quite fresh and pleasant. My brushes look brand new! Highly recommend!”

“I LOVE this little pad! First and foremost, it works great,” wrote another about the cleansing pad. “It really gets all the junk out of your brushes and properly deep cleans them. The design of it is really nice, fits perfectly in the palm of your hand and the little strap on the back keeps it there. But one of my favourite things about this is the fact it comes with that microfibre towel and the bag it comes in. The bag is honestly such good quality and it makes storage super easy. I’m so happy with this purchase, and the price can’t be beat!”
