Four parents called UC Davis police to alert them scammers called them overnight from the free Ride Share Services number connected to the police department. Lt. Doug Voska said the phone number for the UC Davis police Safe Rides service (530-754-2677 or 530-754-COPS) is being spoofed by scammers. "Safe Ride doesn't call parents, Safe Ride doesn't really call anyone," Voska said. "They (students ) use a phone app." The Safe Ride program works similarly to ride-share programs like Uber or Lyft, but it's free for students.
