It’s no secret that the production of leather goods is destructive to the planet.
A lot of harm comes from making leather products, including factory farming, the use of toxic chemicals and the moral dilemma of using animal hides.
The growth of the vegan or synthetic leather clothing industry is therefore no surprise. And this isn’t your average low quality pleather, either. Brands dedicated to using vegan materials - mostly polyurethane (PU) -are attempting to make their products almost indistinguishable from real leather. While synthetic products aren’t the perfect alternative (they have their own set of environmental issues), brands like Pixie Mood are doing their best to give the fashion world an animal-free option.
While we wait for the Beyond Meat of leather, there are many vegan leather brands that are stylish, durable and won’t wreak (as much) havoc on your conscience.
