Verizon teamed up with Kindness.org on a first-of-its-kind academic study to measure the state of kindness across America — and the results were fascinating!

“We surveyed thousands of people from all 50 states and from all walks of life on what kind acts they would do,” said Dr. Oliver Scott Curry, research director for Kindness.org, a non-profit whose mission is to educate and inspire people to choose kindness. “Overall, our research revealed a surprisingly high capacity for kindness across America, and the results across all the states were remarkably similar.”
According to their research, the top three kindest acts ranked by Americans overall were: “Become an organ donor for a family member,” “Pull a stranger from a burning car” and “Adopt and raise a family member.”
And when it comes to family, America demonstrated just how far they were willing to go for their kith and kin.
For instance, a whopping 86% of people would be willing to donate a part of their liver to a family member. Another 72% would lend money to a friend in a financial crisis.
And the top three kind acts that you can incorporate into your daily life? “Cover the shift for a work colleague,” “Call a friend to encourage them” and “Cheer up a family member.”
It just goes to show that when it comes to bringing kindness to our loved ones’ lives, America is willing to go the extra mile!
Other incredible takeaways from the research include:
The average American would give up $6.40 if that meant a stranger would get $10.
53% of people said they would donate their vacation time to a colleague.
Kentucky tops the list of kindest states in the U.S., followed by New Mexico and Oklahoma.

Kindness.org needs your help!
But Verizon and Kindness.org aren’t stopping with this academic study. They’re looking to spread kindness around the world — and they’re asking people everywhere to join them!
