She might be one of the world’s most beautiful models, but even Sara Sampaio admits it’s difficult to stay in shape during the lead-up to the Victoria’s Secret fashion show.

The brunette beauty, who walked the runway for the lingerie giant last year, told Net-a-Porter’s The Edit she hadn’t realized how much work it would take to get catwalk-ready for the show.

“When I started modeling, I didn’t know anything about fashion, but I’d watched the Victoria’s Secret show,” Sampaio said. “Now it’s the highlight of my year, but I never realized it would be so much work and how tough it is to stay in your best shape. It’s not as glam as it looks!”

Models Josephine Skriver and Jasmine Tookes have been documenting their fitness routines on the Instagram account @JoJa, and it’s hardcore enough to scare any workout enthusiast.

The models lift weights, do planks, and generally run rings around one another in an effort to stay in shape.

While Sampaio almost certainly works out, she does admit models have significant help when it comes to looking good at photo shoots.

“People need to realize that models get [professional] hair and makeup, incredible lighting, and we know how to pose,” Sampaio told The Edit. “I’ve been doing this job for almost 10 years, so I know how my body looks good from different angles. But I don’t look like that in real life.”

But is this a case of Sampaio being too hard on herself? Judging by her next comment, she sounds like a lot of us.

“I’m like every other girl; there are things I wish I could change about my body, but I try not to think about them too much.”
