Video: Colby Covington’s UFC welterweight title shot creates ‘really messed-up situation’

To just about everyone’s surprise, Colby Covington weighed in as the backup fighter for the welterweight title fight between champion Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman this past weekend at UFC 286. Even more surprising was UFC president Dana White announcing after Edwards’ win over Usman that Covington is next in line for a shot at the 170-pound title.

No, it won’t be Belal Muhammad, who is on an eight-fight winning streak over multiple ranked fighters, nor will it be the winner of Gilbert Burns vs. Jorge Masvidal next month at UFC 287. It’ll be Covington, the former interim champ who’s already failed in two previous title fights and hasn’t competed in a year, since he beat Masvidal by lopsided unanimous decision at UFC 272.

How do we feel about this decision by White and the UFC brass?

Our “Spinning Back Clique” panel of Mike Bohn, Farah Hannoun, and Brian “Goze” Garcia weigh in with host “Gorgeous” George Garcia. Check out their discussion in the video above, and don’t miss this week’s full episode below.
