VIDEO: Coyote and bobcat caught playing tag on Texas doorbell cam
CARROLLTON, Tex.– A surprisingly playful interaction between a bobcat and coyote was caught on camera in a neighborhood north of Dallas.
Bobcats and coyotes are usually enemies, as the two often compete for the same types of food, according to Texas Parks and Wildlife. When they do see each other, the animals typically try to avoid one another.
But based on the footage captured by the doorbell camera of a home in Carrollton, it seems that the two nemeses can set their differences aside and have a good time.
At first, the coyote is seen sniffing around the front porch of a home. Then, from the nearby garden, a bobcat emerges and begins to follow the coyote.
The two can be seen chasing each other around the porch and front yard.
Footage of this interaction shows that wildlife, such as bobcats and coyotes, do coexist with humans.
"That's a good thing — a healthy ecosystem has biodiversity," Texas Parks and Wildlife Urban Wildlife Biologist Sam Kieschnick said to FOX Weather. "Bobcats and coyotes feed on mice and rats and are nature's pest control in the urban ecosystem! They also keep other species in check, so it's a good thing to see bobcats and coyotes."
Kieschnick did note that humans do need to try to avoid interacting with bobcats and coyotes, advising that people control their trash, practice responsible pet ownership and avoid intentionally or unintentionally feeding wild animals.
