“The View” resurfaces iconic Rosie O'Donnell vs. Elisabeth Hasselbeck fight in game show segment

O'Donnell and Hasselbeck's legendary on-air fight made a reappearance during a game of "Double Dare" on "The View."

Rosie O'Donnell has returned to the set of The View — sort of.

The comedian and former moderator of the long-running talk show became a bit of a Hot Topic herself on Wednesday's episode, as her iconic May 2007 clash with ex-cohost Elisabeth Hasselbeck was an answer to a trivia question during a contest between current cohosts Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Joy Behar, and Alyssa Farah Griffin while the group played a round of Double Dare with special guest Marc Summers.

"Which two hosts heated exchange led to The View's iconic split screen moment?" Summers asked team Hostin-Haines, who briefly conferred before responding with O'Donnell and Hasselbeck's names.

A representative for O'Donnell declined comment. EW has reached out to Hasselbeck's team for a response.

The infamous spat resulted in the show's production team switching to an unprecedented split-screen format during the live telecast, and immediately made national headlines. It remains one of the show's most memorable moments of all time, prompting O'Donnell to exit the show shortly thereafter, though she briefly returned as a panelist from 2014-2015. Hasselbeck remained at the table until 2013, and returned as a guest cohost in 2022.

O'Donnell has since spoken out against the show and Hasselbeck, including in a statement on Hasselbeck's 2022 return. "I remembered why I don't wanna watch it with her anymore," O'Donnell said on TikTok at the time.

The actress later spoke about her fight with Hasselbeck on a 2023 episode of Brooke Shields' Now What? podcast.

"One day on the show she kind of threw me under the bus and I was like, 'Are you f---ing kidding me?'" O'Donnell told Shields. "I finished the show, got my coat, walked out, and said I'm not going back, and I didn't, until a few years later when they asked me to come back and Whoopi [Goldberg] was on it and we clashed in ways that I was shocked by." (A representative for The View did not comment on EW's request for comment at the time.)

The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC.
