Violence Erupts as Mourners Carry Coffin of Slain Journalist in Jerusalem

There were chaotic scenes outside a Jerusalem hospital on May 13 as mourners carried the coffin of slain Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh.

Quds News Network, citing the Palestine Red Crescent Society, said “dozens” of people were injured as police clashed with the crowd.

Israeli police had surrounded the hospital ahead of the violence, Al Jazeera reported.

This footage was published by Jmedia and shows clashes between mourners carrying Abu Akleh’s coffin and police. Police are seen pushing back mourners attempting to exit the hospital, carrying the coffin, with baton. A loud bang can be heard before the coffin is almost dropped. First responders are seen carrying an injured person away from the scene. Credit: Jmedia via Storyful
