After her 90-year-old mother lost both her engagement and wedding rings while running errands earlier this week, Heather Williams Johnson posted a plea to social media to try and track down the missing jewelry.

The Niagara Falls, Ont. native explained in her Facebook post that her mother was running errands to the Royal Bank and No Frills on Lundy’s Lane when she lost two of her most precious belongings.

“While out running errands, my mom (who turned 90 in October) did not realize that when she removed her gloves, her 73+ year old engagement ring and wedding band must have been pulled off and went flying,” wrote Williams Johnson. “She only realized it when she returned home and noticed her bare ring finger.”

While the woman found her 25th anniversary ring in her purse, it was then that she realized the other two rings must have slipped off her finger and fallen out of her glove. Williams Johnson explains that her 90-year-old mother is devastated by the loss.

“She has searched her home, her handbag, her vehicle and after a sleepless night returned to the parking lot with a flashlight to search and retrace her steps. She also returned to the Royal Bank and No Frills when they had opened to let them know and is hoping someone/a good Samaritan will turn them in,” she wrote.

Williams Johnson admits that the two pieces of jewelry don’t carry much monetary value, but to her mother, they mean the world with more than 73 years of sentimental memories.

“The engagement ring has little more than a diamond chip and the wedding band is quite worn. We are all devastated for her and are hoping someone, anyone may be able to help,” wrote Williams Johnson.

The two rings have yet to be found and she is hopeful her public plea on social media will inspire those in the area to keep an eye out – in the name of the season.

“With Christmas coming, the return of these rings would be the best gift ever.”
