Vote for The Observer/Deer Park high school defensive player of the week: Nov. 10

Below are the nominees for the Charlotte Observer/Deer Park Water high school football offensive player of the week.

Eligible players are at schools in Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln and Union counties in North Carolina and in York and Lancaster counties in South Carolina.

The weekly winner will receive a trophy from Deer Park.

This week’s defensive nominees

Brandon Albert, Community School of Davidson: Albert had 14 tackles and an interception in Friday’s 38-16 win over Lexington. Albert also caught eight passes for 80 yards and a score, and he ran 31 times for 117 yards and another touchdown.

Chris Clark, Independence: Clark picked up a fumble and returned it 40 yards to kick off the scoring in Friday’s 35-0 win at Lake Norman.

Khamoni Heath, Lincolnton: In a 35-21 win over North Surry, Heath had six tackles, including three tackles for a loss, and a sack. On offense, he ran 22 times for 200 yards and four touchdowns.

Donald “DJ” Jones, Mallard Creek: In a 41-7 win over Mallard Creek, Jones had 15 tackles, including three tackles for a loss.

Jaden Meeks, Chambers: Meeks had 10 total tackles in Friday’s 45-20 win over Northwest Guilford

Tyquan Rankin, Butler: In Friday’s 49-7 win over Alexander Central, Rankin had 11 total tackles, one tackle for a loss, one forced fumble, one pass defended and had two interceptions that were returned for touchdowns, covering 41 and 39 yards. He did not play the fourth quarter.

Ben Sain, West Lincoln: Sain had 14 tackles, one pass breakup and a fumble recovery in a 53-35 win over Chase.

Kyle Van Dam, Providence Day: In a 57-14 win over Metrolina Christian, Van Dam had seven tackles, a sack and a tackle for a loss.
