Welsh Cup: Llanelli knock Penybont out as TNS thrash Trethomas Bluebirds

Welsh Cup holders The New Saints put seven goals past Ardal South East League side Trethomas Bluebirds as they cruised into the fourth round.

The round's biggest shock came on Friday night as Cymru South's Llanelli beat Penybont 4-3 on penalties.

Colwyn Bay beat Newtown 5-3 on penalties in Saturday's all-Cymru Premier tie while Bala won 1-0 away against Aberystwyth.

The biggest score game on Friday as Connah's Quay beat Prestatyn Town 8-0.

Gwion Dafydd sored a hat-trick for the second successive round as holders The New Saints put seven past Trethomas Bluebirds at Park Hall.

Cymru Premier's bottom side Colwyn Bay won 5-3 on penalties at Newtown. Aaron Williams gave the hosts the lead but Jamie Cumming's leveller secured penalties.

Sam Snaith scored a stoppage time winner as Barry Town left it late to beat Cymru North side Guilsfield 1-0 at Jenner Park while Iwan Roberts scored the only goal as last season's beaten finalists Bala Town won 1-0 at Aberystwyth.

Haverfordwest are through as second half goals from Ricky Watts and Martell Taylor-Crossdale saw them beat Ammanford 2-0.

Elliot Evans and Sam Jones' first half goals proved to be enough for Cardiff Met at home to Mold Alexandra. Evans also missed a first half penalty for the hosts with Jake Roberts scoring from the spot for the Cymru North side.

Cymru South side Llanelli produced a shock in the third round of the JD Welsh Cup with victory on penalties over Cymru Premier club Penybont.

Llanelli were leading 3-2 when Lewis Harling equalised in stoppage time.

The hosts won 4-3 on spot kicks, with Penybont's Keyon Refell missing the decisive penalty.

At Stebonheath Park, Penybont keeper Alex Pennock made an excellent save to deny Ryan Bevan's effort from outside the box before the hosts went ahead.

Ethan Cann capitalised on a poor back-pass and calmly finished with Pennock having ventured off his line.

But the visitors responded soon after when Llanelli failed to clear Henry Jones' cross and Refell's turn and shot brought his side level.

Josh Yorwerth put a header wide from Jones' corner before a cross from Ryan Reynolds was headed home by former Llanelli striker Chris Venables to give Penybont the lead.

Five minutes into the second half Cann struck for his second goal with a stunning curling effort from the edge of the box to equalise.

Jamie Baker's looping header 15 minutes from time restored Llanelli's lead but captain Harling netted Refell's cross in stoppage time to take the tie to penalties.

Also on Friday evening, Connah's Quay secured their place in the last 16 with a thumping 8-0 win over manager Neil Gibson's former side Prestatyn Town.

·Jordan Davies scored a hat-trick for Nomads with a brace from Callum Morris, as well as goals from Harry Franklin, Noah Edwards and Jack Kenny.
