Since bringing their business track record and home design skills to national audiences on HGTV’s Fixer Upper, Joanna and Chip Gaines have been living a hectic life. And now, after five years on the air, the TV power couple are closing up shop on Fixer Upper and moving on to new pursuits in 2018.

When the couple were in New York City, Yahoo Lifestyle sat down and discussed many a topic with them, including what they may have planned for their next adventures. From the sounds of it, they’re still trying to figure everything out.

“This is a risky deal,” admits Chip Gaines. “You give up a show at essentially the height of its popularity. It took a lot of thought from Jo and my perspective. We’re excited about it and also sad at the same time.”

It’s not difficult to imagine that a life working on a TV show gets overwhelming with schedules, deadlines, appearances and more. So we weren’t surprised to hear that the Gaines’ biggest plans seem to be about having no plans at all.

“We want to take a sincere whole six, 12 months off,” Chip continues. “Whatever the time period looks like, and kind of catch our breath. These last five years have been quite a whirlwind.”

“The last five years, we’ve had these crazy deadlines,” adds Joanna. These crazy schedules. Just spontaneous with the kids, not be so scheduled is what I’m excited about.”
