Who's a good girl?! This mom-to-be dog is loving her maternity shoot

One mom-to-be is in the spotlight after her maternity photoshoot was released — and she’s loving every minute of it.

Ima is a foster pup at the Greater Charlotte SPCA, and after jumping a fence and disappearing, the she returned home to her previous owner — pregnant. The dog’s now foster mom decided to have a bit of fun with the pregnancy, knowing Ima would lap-up the love.

In a Facebook post, Sarah Freeman said Ima loved the attention during the photoshoot, despite not being in rush to give birth.

“Ima had a great time [with the shoot]. The only thing she wants more than sleep is cuddles and love! Which she’s had so much of,” she told Yahoo Canada. “She’s doing great! No contractions and she isn’t nesting yet. I set up a great pen for her to hang out in which a bunch of towels to just sleep the day away.”

But that’s not to say the attention is going to the mom-to-be’s head. Ima had a rough life before being rescued by the Greater Charlotte SPCA. After the hound-mix was abandoned at a kennel, one woman took her, only for Ima to escape the fence and return pregnant a month later. Knowing she couldn’t afford the dog as well as her puppies, the owner surrendered the dog. Ima eventually found her way to the Greater Charlotte SPCA where she met Freeman, who decided to foster the three-year-old through her pregnancy.

For 29-year-old Freeman, volunteering with the SPCA has been a life-changing role.

I have been with the Greater Charlotte SPCA for about 18 months and in that short time I have fostered over 60 animals, mostly dogs. I started with only fostering adult friendly dogs, one at a time but soon enough I was taking multiple dogs, and not even six months into fostering, I got my first litter,” she said. “I never knew how much I could love something, and could be so fulfilled while helping others. Watching these scared, mistreated, abandoned dogs return to a happy and loved dog is the greatest thing I can do. Besides having the joy of fostering, I am now part of the absolute best community! The amount of friends I have made is incredible.”

The volunteer and foster mom understands the impact social media can have on getting foster dogs adopted. Often sharing funny pictures to her foster dogs’ Instagram feed, Freeman thought conducting the maternity-inspired photoshoot with Ima would help find her a forever home.

I love to dress my babies up in such silly things. I also know what an important tool social media is to get our fosters adopted, so I always try to be creative and have fun with them. I have a few friends who are about to pop soon, and I thought how much fun would it be to do the same thing,” she said. “Ima is such a chill and silly little dog that I knew she would have fun. Which of course she did!”

In her social media post, the Greater Charlotte SPCA volunteer asks her followers to donate to the organization, supporting Ima’s puppies’ future vet appointments.

“The Greater Charlotte SPCA is a purely foster based volunteer organization who take in all kinds of dogs and cats, but that means we take in animals that might require some intensive vet care,” said Freeman. “I would love it if we could turn Ima’s new found fame into a way to get some donations to help cover her and her babies vet bills.”

While Ima has yet to give birth – we wish the new mom a healthy delivery with lots of cuddles and a forever home in her future.
