Why Harry, William, Meghan and Kate don't sit together any more

  • The British royal family attended the Festival of Remembrance at Royal Albert Hall last night.

  • Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Prince William and Kate Middleton sat at separate ends of the balcony.

The royals all attended an event in honour of Remembrance Day last night, and it was the first time Princes Harry and William were at the same engagement in a while - and although it was nice to see the royals all together, some fans were left wondering why the Sussexes and Cambridges were sat so far apart.

You may recall that the brothers and their wives used to be placed alongside each other for official royal events, but last night Meghan and Harry were sat on opposite sides of the balcony to William and Kate.

Turns out it's nothing personal, though - and all to do with order of precedence.

Queen Elizabeth always sits centre, along with Prince Charles next to her. Prince William is second in line to the throne, so he and Kate are next. Meanwhile Prince Harry is sixth in line, hence why he was sat at the other end of the balcony by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Before the royal households split, they were often placed alongside each other - for example, during the Remembrance Parade last year. However, now the households have separated - which was inevitable, considering William and Kate's future as King and Queen - William, Harry, Meghan and Kate were hit with rumours of a 'rift'. In a recent documentary, filmed on their tour of Africa, Harry was asked by ITV's Tom Bradby about whether there was any substance to the speculation.

We are certainly on different paths at the moment but I will always be there for him as I know he will always be there for me,” Harry said. Part of this role, part of this job, this family, being under the pressure which it's under, inevitably stuff happens. But we are brothers. We will always be brothers."

The last time all four royals were seen out together this year was in July, when William and Harry played in a charity polo match in Berkshire and Meghan and Kate came along with George, Charlotte, Louis and Archie to watch.

We're guessing the fab four loved the rare opportunity to attend the same event - even if they weren't as close as they'd like.
