Why Isn't the 'Bridgerton' Cast at the Emmy Awards?

Dearest readers, Lady Whistledown regrets to inform you that this Sunday's Emmy Awards will be missing a notable group of partygoers. Indeed, despite their 12 nominations, many members of the Bridgerton cast of will be skipping the show.

Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington on the hit Netflix series, told ET that there will not be a sizable Bridgerton presence at the awards program. Much of the cast is currently in England, filming the show's second season. However, just because the cast will not be celebrating their nominations at the event itself, does not mean they are any less excited about Bridgerton's critical acclaim.

"It was amazing! It was so exciting," Coughlan said of the nominations. "It's the biggest awards in television so to be recognized by them is phenomenal. We were all super excited. We [are] in the middle of filming season 2 right now, so the new season 2 group chat was going off. It's called 'Bridger-2,' which I picked that name and felt very proud. I felt like, 'That's so smart!'"

The show's nominations included nods in prestigious categories like Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for star Regé-Jean Page, who will not be returning to Bridgerton for season two. The series already won its first Emmy last weekend for Outstanding Period and/or Character Hairstyling.

As for how Coughlan herself will mark the awards show? She confessed that, given the time difference between Los Angeles and the UK, she will likely be asleep.

"I’m trying to figure out what time it will be, it'll probably be at like 2 a.m. for us maybe and I’m filming the next day so I’ll be asleep. Very glamorous, isn't it?" she joked, but noted that if Bridgerton wins big, she'll request a special treat. "I am going to be like, 'Pizza, pizza!' It's always an exciting thing because the days on set are long and when pizza comes, everyone gets very excited."
