Meghan Markle, 36, and Prince Harry, 33, are set to get married on May 19 at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle — and although it’s no secret the gorgeous former actress has broken a number of unwritten royal traditions over the course of their year-and-a-half whirlwind courtship — she may have unwittingly broken another, simply by commenting on the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements.
The bride-to-be made her first official royal engagement with Harry and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at the Royal Foundation Forum at the end of February. The “royal four,” as they have now been dubbed, appeared cozy as they discussed the future ambitions of the foundation — but while senior members of the British royal family typically don’t show support for political movements, Meghan was vocal about the Time’s Up and MeToo movements during the panel discussion.

“Right now with so many campaigns like Me Too and Time’s Up there’s no better time to continue to shine a light on women feeling empowered and people supporting them,” Markle noted. “I hear a lot of people speaking about girls’ empowerment and women’s empowerment. You will hear people saying they are helping women find their voices. I fundamentally disagree with that because women don’t need to find their voices, they need to be empowered to use it, and people need to be urged to listen.”
Again — this is pretty big for Markle, who will soon be a prominent senior member of the royal family, to make such opinionated remarks on two major political movements. Not even Kate Middleton wore black in solidarity with other stars at the 2018 BAFTAs, presumably in effort to keep up with protocol.
If there was any protocol a royal should break, this would be a worthy one — don’t you think?
Rule breaker or not, the public adores Meghan!
