Despite their wedding in May being the biggest event of the year, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle apparently won’t be able to enjoy their first Christmas as newlyweds together.

The couple, who are expecting their first child in spring next year, will reportedly spend the morning of Christmas Day apart - but don’t panic; all is well between them… it’s just a royal tradition.

The Queen's former chef Darren McGrady told the Mail on Sunday that the men of the family always eat together at 8:30am.

"On Christmas Day, the ladies generally opt for a light breakfast of sliced fruit, half a grapefruit, toast and coffee delivered to their rooms,” he explained.

However, ”male royals, meanwhile, come downstairs to the dining room for a hearty breakfast at 8:30am with eggs, bacon and mushrooms, kippers and grilled kidneys, to set them up for the 11am church service at St Mary Magdalene,” he added.

Weird flex, but eating breakfast separately most definitely isn’t the weirdest royal family Christmas tradition.

Firstly they don’t actually do present-swapping on Christmas Day (???!!!!) but instead following afternoon tea on Christmas Eve. After that, they head to a black tie dinner. So not quite like your average family.

This year, things will be slightly different, as Prince William and Kate Middleton will be skipping royal Christmas in favour of spending the day in Berkshire with the Duchess’ parents.

Talking to the Sunday Telegraph's Stella magazine, Kate's mum Carol admitted that she's put individual fir trees in the bedrooms of Prince George and Princess Charlotte at the family’s £4.7 million mansion so they can decorate them themselves.

Very cute.
