Despite fans' utter disappointment when production for NCIS season 17 shut down in March because of the coronavirus pandemic, it looks like viewers won't be waiting too much longer for new episodes of the popular CBS crime show. With the premiere of season 18 fast approaching, fans' excitement is building with each passing day.

What will happen when season 18 premieres? Read on for all sorts of spoilers, cast info, and news about the upcoming season of NCIS:

When does NCIS season 18 start?

Due to COVID-19, NCIS's filming schedule was temporarily delayed. That said, CBS announced that season 18 will premiere on Tuesday, November 17 at 8 p.m. ET. Meanwhile, both NCIS: Los Angeles season 12 and NCIS: New Orleans season 7 are returning to the network on Sunday, November 8.

In early September, Wilmer Valderrama, a.k.a. Nick, shared a screenshot of the cast and crew doing their first Zoom table read of season 18. "In many ways it feels like we, the cast and crew of our @ncis_cbs family.. are like astronauts embarking into the learning curb of a whole new world and reality.. here’s to a smooth lift off," he wrote on Instagram.

What can fans expect from the new season of NCIS?

While we don't know a ton about the upcoming season, it's almost certain that the show's milestone 400th episode will be packed with drama. The flashback episode, which was supposed to air in the springtime but didn't due to the pandemic, will look at the early days of Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and Ducky (David McCallum). But before we watch that, fans will kick off with episode 399, which is where the show left off before production was halted. The show isn't expected to dive into the pandemic, but instead pick up right where it left off with season 17.

What's more, fans will say goodbye to Jack (Maria Bello) after eight episodes of the new season, per Deadline. That said, it remains to be seen what her sendoff will look like.

Who will all be included in the NCIS season 18 cast?

All of your favorites — Mark Harmon, Wilmer Valderrama, Sean Murray, Emily Wickersham, Maria Bello, Brian Dietzen, Diona Reasonover, Rocky Carroll, and David McCallum. As for Cote de Pablo, who plays Ziva, however, it looks like fans won't be seeing her this season. According to Parade.com, Ziva's storyline wrapped up in season 17 when she flew to Paris to reunite with Tony (Michael Weatherly) and their daughter. While it's possible she'll return in some capacity later on, the outlet reports that it's "not likely" for season 18.
