Witness the speed of Billy Hamilton when this Red Sox pick-off goes horribly wrong

There aren’t many people in baseball who can do what Cincinnati Reds speedster Billy Hamilton did Sunday.

Hamilton, MLB’s stolen base leader this season, was caught in a pickle when the Boston Red Sox tried to pick him off first base. One wrong move by the Red Sox, though, and Hamilton was fast enough to turn it into a run.

Red Sox pitcher Brandon Workman thought he had Hamilton caught off first in the seventh inning, and he might have, if the pickle he turned out better for Boston. But after Workman couldn’t catch Dustin Pedroia’s throw, Hamilton just kept on running.

Another speedy MLB player would get to third on that, maybe take a big turn toward home, but Hamilton didn’t slow down. When the Red Sox didn’t have anybody covering the plate, that sealed their fate on this one.

Pretty exciting moment, huh? Well, unless you’re a Red Sox fan. Lucky for them, Boston scored four in the eighth inning to come back and win the game. That ultimately belonged to them, but the most thrilling play of the game belonged to Hamilton.
