A woman is asking the Reddit community for advice after a heated family dispute over her dad’s will has left her wondering if she’s wrong for cutting her sister off.

The woman explains in the post that her father recently won $60,000 through gambling. While it wasn’t a life-changing amount, it was enough for him to reassess his estate and update his will. So, he decided to leave his house to the woman and the cash winnings to her sister.

“My sister (34F) found out he’s leaving his house to me and the cash to her (roughly equal value),” the woman writes. “She FLIPPED OUT saying she should get half the house too because ‘she has kids and needs the stability’—even though she owns her own place already!”

Despite the apparent fairness of the arrangement, the demand left the poster feeling frustrated, especially considering her own contributions to their father’s well-being over the years.

“When I pointed out that Dad specifically set it up this way because I’ve been helping with his care for years while she visits like twice a year, she accused me of manipulating him,” the woman writes. “Then she called Dad screaming about how I’ve ‘poisoned him against her.’ ”

The outburst deeply affected their father, who had only wanted to make sure both daughters were taken care of fairly. Now, under the weight of his daughter’s accusations and emotional outbursts, he is second-guessing his decision.

“Dad is devastated,” the woman shares. “He thought this was fair—I get the family home (that I already help maintain) and she gets liquid assets. Now he’s stressed about ‘causing problems’ and is considering changing it to make her happy.”

The woman was further upset when her sister took the disagreement beyond their immediate family. Rather than having a private conversation, her sister told relatives that the woman was attempting to steal her inheritance.

“I told her she’s being greedy and that this isn’t even relevant yet since Dad is still alive and healthy,” the woman adds.

In an effort to protect her peace, the woman has decided to block her sister’s number, hoping to remove herself from the drama.

However, not everyone supports her choice. Their mother, who is divorced from their father, thinks the woman is overreacting and should try and talk things out.

“But I’m so disgusted I can’t even look at my sister right now,” the woman shares.

"This makes me so angry, I hope your dad lives long enough to use up all the money," writes one commenter.

"Your sister is a vulture. If she keeps up the slander, your dad would be fully within his rights to drop her portion down to a dollar," adds another. "Don't suggest to him BTW, otherwise you'll be proving her right. I'm just saying that the 50/50 split is a purely voluntary thing on his part, and nobody is entitled to anything."
