Recognize this face? Former 'Price is Right' model now set to show her acting, stunt skills in 'Wonder Woman 1984'

The COVID-19 pandemic has delayed the release of some of the year’s most highly anticipated movies including Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984 starring Gal Gadot. A former Price is Right model, Gwendolyn Osborne, is celebrating, because will finally be able show off her acting and stunt skills in the film.

Osborne told Yahoo Canada earlier this year that she is an Amazon character that is “really strong” and “extremely athletic.”

Her journey to Wonder Woman 1984 all began with a close friend of Osborne’s mother named Fauna Hodel. Jenkins had directed and served as executive producer on a TNT miniseries, I Am the Night, adapted from Hodel’s memoir “One Day She'll Darken: The Mysterious Beginnings of Fauna Hodel.” Hodel was given up for adoption as an infant and later went on to find out her grandfather, George Hodel, was a key suspect in the Black Dahlia murder.

“She would tell me, believe in yourself, do you know who you are, and I would say it back to her, ‘do you know who you are,’” Osbourne revealed.

Hodel passed away in 2017 and at her celebration of life, Jenkins came over and tapped Osbourne on the shoulder to ask if the actress and model would be in her film.

“It was like a gift in her passing to me to let me know to believe in myself, to know that I can do it, that I can conquer any fear I have in my life and let me tell you, did I conquer some fears while shooting that film,” Osbourne said.

Getting a role in this movie is something Osborne described as “a pinnacle point” in her life as the actress was looking for an opportunity that would allow her to be more fulfilled in her career.

“I was unhappy in my marriage, I was trying to figure out what I was going to do in my career,” she said. “I felt very muted in many areas of my life but I still felt underlying that I was this strong female that still needed to be seen and heard.”

Osborne didn’t initially know what exactly her role would be but she showed up on set ready to work her hardest like she was about to “go up against Wonder Woman.” She went back to acting class, worked out “like crazy” and prepared to be away from her children during that time.

“I was a teen mom so I’d never not had a kid to take care of,” Osbourne said. “It was a physical, mental, spiritual preparation.”

She said her three children are incredibly excited to see their mom doing stunts in the movie.

“A lot of parents, we talk about what we’ve done in the past to them so they never actually get to see us do it, but my kids have actually [gotten] to see me really want something, work hard for it and conquer it,” Osbourne said. “It makes them really know that they can do things for themselves.”

‘He definitely set a standard...of acceptance and empowerment with women’

Before stepping into her role in Wonder Woman 1984 Osbourne was like a ‘Wonder Woman’ in her own life, paving the way for women by being the first pregnant Price is Right model on the show, also coming back after her children were born to resume her role.

“Honestly, I think Drew [Carey] was the person who made the change in that because I know that before I came along, that was not possible,” she said.

“He definitely set a standard, a new standard of acceptance and empowerment with women so I was able to fulfill that by having my baby, come back and then doing it again, and as we know, every model has done it since and they’re all back on the show.”

Looking back at her time on The Price is Right, Osbourne wishes the models on the show had more opportunities to “grow as personalities” and have more interaction with fans of the show, connecting with them on a more personal level.

She revealed Carey coming in as the host was a “major factor” in being able to perform and express her creative side.

“It wasn’t just about beauty and a pretty dress. I loved that,” Osbourne said. “We were able to use that as time went by and the producers changed, and Drew Carey came in.”

For next steps in her career, after the world finally gets to see her in action in Wonder Woman 1984, Osbourne would be happy to work with Jenkins again and would love to work with Shonda Rhimes, ideally in a regular television role.

“My kids and I are really working together for me to get a show regularly on television again,” she said. “The deal we have is once I get a series regular role they can get a dog.”

Wonder Woman 1984 will be released in Canada and the U.S. on Dec. 25.
