‘Yellowstone’ Fans Are Livid the Show Was Snubbed From This Year's Emmy Nominations

• Once again, Yellowstone and its star-studded cast, including Kelly Reilly and Kevin Costner, were overlooked.

• Taylor Sheridan, the show's creator, recently shared his thoughts on why Hollywood doesn't recognize the hit Paramount Network show.

Without question, Yellowstone is one of the best shows on television. Now in its third season, the hit ranching drama continues to dominate the ratings, even being considered the "#1 scripted series of the summer" for the third year in a row. Impressive ratings are just half of it: The popular Paramount Network show receives rave reviews each week from fans and critics alike.

That's why it's surprising to fans that Yellowstone didn't receive a single Emmy nomination this year — or any previous year, for that matter.

The show, which would theoretically be in the running for "Outstanding Drama Series," lost out to shows like Better Call Saul, The Crown, The Handmaid's Tale, Killing Eve, The Mandalorian, Ozark, Stranger Things, and Succession. Lead actresses Jennifer Aniston (The Morning Show), Laura Linney (Ozark), and Olivia Colman (The Crown) beat out Yellowstone's Kelly Reilly, while lead actors Jason Bateman (Ozark), Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us), and Steve Carell (The Morning Show) were nominated while Kevin Costner was not.

Well before the 2020 Emmy nominations were announced, the show's creator Taylor Sheridan went into detail about his theory on why the show hasn't garnered momentum at major award shows. "I think that whenever you’re dealing with awards in our industry, there are certainly lanes you can go down that fall into categories that get attention by people who give awards. At face value, a Western about a millionaire cattle rancher doesn’t seem to fall into the category of art that is trying to have an impactful effect on an audience, even though I feel it obviously is, or I wouldn’t do it," he told Deadline.

In his eyes, there's a reason why you see the same shows, networks, and names on the nomination's list: "Number one, they obviously have excellent taste, and number two, they know how to play that game." Despite the fact that the show has garnered record ratings (FYI: season 3 debuted with a record-breaking 6.5 million viewers.), he claims that "most Emmy voters probably don’t even know it’s on the air."

Although Sheridan doesn't seem too phased by the Emmy snubs, fans took to Twitter to voice their frustrations following Tuesday's announcement:

More than anything, fans were appalled that Kelly Reilly went another year without any critical acclaim for her incredible performance as Beth Dutton. One Twitter user put it best: It's a "travesty" that she isn't getting the recognition she deserves.

While all eyes are currently on the Emmy's, the show has also been snubbed from other major award shows. In the three years that the show has been on air, it's only picked up three nominations total, including two from the Hollywood Post Alliance Awards.
