Yes, Dog Crates Can Be Stylish, and This One From Fable Is Proof
Be honest: You love your pup, but you don't always love the options out there for things like dog beds and crates. If you've been hoping for more stylish pet essentials, you're in luck. Fable, a new premium pet brand founded by Sophie Bakalar and Jeremy Canade, just launched what is likely the most stylish dog crate you've ever seen — and as a bonus, it doubles as a table.
"Knowing that space is a precious commodity, particularly in small city apartments, we wanted to optimize the air space around the bed and provide utility by ensuring the crate worked as a side table as well," the pair tells House Beautiful. Bakalar and Canade acknowledged that historically, pet products and style haven't quite gone hand-in-hand. "Even though beds and bowls are so visible in our apartments, traditionally they haven't been well integrated into modern home decor. So we thought it made sense to apply our practical design lens and minimalist aesthetic to make products that perfectly balance form and function," they explain.
But it's not all style — the crate is also made to be comfortable and practical for your dog, of course. Bakalar and Canade explained that their first priorities when designing products for Fable are functionality and thoughtfulness, which is clear from the crate's design. It's made with sustainable materials and features two different styles of doors (a clear acrylic or a white metal) "to seamlessly integrate with different interior design aesthetics and dogs' various preferences for levels of seclusion."
The doors also feature holes specifically designed for your dog's nose to rest comfortably, and they open garage-door-style to disappear into the crate, ensuring they don't take up any extra space. Plus, the crate has a removable tray in case of accidents, and is designed to pair perfectly with another new Fable addition: a waterproof, stain-proof, scratch-resistant memory foam dog bed that comes in three sizes and five colorways.
The crate retails for $275, and is currently available in size XS/S, which can comfortably fit dogs under 20 pounds and pairs with an XS/S dog bed (which retails for $95). But don't worry — a larger size is in the works and will be available soon.
Alongside today's launch of the crate and the bed, Fable also added a dishwasher safe dog bowl (available in five colorways and three sizes), hypoallergenic and biodegradable dog wipes, and a toy called the Falcon. The Falcon can be filled with treats and interconnected to make pull toys, and it comes in four colors that have been specifically selected with dogs' vision in mind. The bowl, wipes, and toy retail for $35, $20, and $23, respectively. All of these products join Fable's existing roster of leashes, collars, harnesses, and a carrier bag.
Fable plans to continue launching exciting new pet products, but no word on when exactly they'll debut. "We're keeping them under wraps for now while we finalize the designs!" the founders note. "We're excited to tackle a wide range of problems in the pet category."
