These 11 Hairstyles Will Reign Supreme This Fall

The start of every season presents the opportunity to hit the reset button. Factors such as temperature, how many special events our on our social calendars, and how long the days all fit into shaping up our beauty mood. And one of the most fun ways to set the tone for the day is by putting your hair in a new hairstyle.

Regardless of your hair length, color, or texture, there are a plethora of ways to play up your look and make you feel renewed. So, we tapped five celebrity hairstylists to weigh in on the best hairstyle trends for fall and how to recreate them.

From spiky buns and bouncy blowouts to cornrows and baby braids, see below for the 11 hairstyles that will be everywhere this autumn.

Sleek, Straight Hair

"Coming out of the summer styles of high ponytails, people will begin to opt for a more put together, yet still simple look," predicts Michelle O'Connor, a Miami-based celebrity hairstylist and Matrix Global Artistic Director.

A reason it's so popular is that it's a quick and easy look that can pull any outfit together.

To recreate this look, she says to blow dry hair with a paddle brush and flat iron in sections. Pro tip: Spritz on the Matrix Mega Sleek Iron Smoother Spray to keep hair smooth and shiny.

Curly Bangs

"As trends from the past come back, there is no exception that hair is also inspired by nostalgia," says Sabrina Ahmed, a bi-costal celebrity hairstylist and Garnier Curl Stylist.

She goes on to explain that curly bangs can change your look without taking off length, and getting them is a great way to shape your cut, add volume to your hair, and frame your face.

To achieve this look, Ahmed says to ask your stylist to create rounded layers that connect the shortest layer to the longest layer.

'90s Blowouts

A classic look that provides all the volume and bounce — this style is set to be all the rage this fall. "Aligning with fashion, big, bouncy, blowouts will be trendy this fall," O'Connor further explains.

To achieve this look, she says to reach for either a standard blow dryer with a round brush or an all-in-one styling brush for the voluminous look. "It's also best achieved with a long-layered haircut," she adds.

For extra volume and hold, she suggests using Velcro or Hot rollers as they're "a great option for when you are getting ready to go out, leaving them in until you are about to head out the door." When the style is done, she says to finish off with Matrix Vavoom Extra Full Freezing Spray.

Spiky Buns

As the "clean girl aesthetic" progresses, it's taking an edgy spin for fall.

"It's chic enough to wear to a fall event or wedding and cool enough to wear with jeans and a t-shirt," says celebrity hairstylist and TRESemmé brand ambassador, Justine Marjan, of the versatility of this trend.

"To achieve the look, I recommend using a strong gel at the roots before brushing hair back into a sleek pony," she suggests. "Apply more gel through the length of the pony, then twist into a bun and leave the ends free. Pin to secure, then use a toothbrush with the TRESemmé Extra Hold Hair Spray to clean up frizz and flyaways."

Small and Large Cornrows

Braids are timeless, so prepare to see more of them this fall.

"Tiny detailed braids outlining large cornrows can make a simple style look more complex and detailed," says celebrity hairstylist Monae Everett.

To achieve this look, she suggests beginning by applying Ouidad Advanced Climate Control Featherlight Styling Cream to damp hair. Next, she says to section the hair and created three large cornrows. "In between each large cornrow, let t some hair out and use Ouidad Coil Infusion Good Shape Defining Gel to create tiny detailed braids around the larger cornrows."

Baby Braids

Baby braids were everywhere this summer, and Los Angeles-based celebrity hairstylist and founder of IN COMMON BEAUTY, Riawna Capri, says they'll be a repeat success this fall.

"It's super easy and adds edge to any haircut, color, or style," she explains.

There are many ways to play with the baby braids trend — whether you wear your hair up, down, or somewhere in between. "Add IN COMMON Magic Myst for more hair control, grab little pieces, and braid away," Capri says.

Protective Braids

"Not only are braids a protective style for curly hair, but when combined with colorful hair ties and clips, they can turn a hairstyle into one straight out of spice world," says Ahmed. "The options for adding braids to any hair style are endless — you can add a single braid or head full of braids."

Of the several options she lists, Ahmed highlights box braids, French braids, micro braids, and cornrows.

To create braids of your own, Ahmed says it's important to start with clean hair. "If your hair has a tight curl pattern, you might need to blow dry it smooth and stretch out the curl pattern and braid it into the desired pattern or look," she adds. However, she stresses the importance of not putting too much tension on your natural hair.  "The goal is to look effortlessly chic."

Prom-Inspired Updos

Marjan says that these elaborate, romantic updos are perfect for fall weddings. "I love how romantic and feminine looks like this are," she explains.

Of course, there are so many bun ideas to choose from. However, there are some universal tips that can be useful in creating a similar style.

"Prep damp hair by blow drying with TRESemmé One Step Texture Mist all over. Then, curl hair with the ghd soft curl iron, bringing the iron down through the ends and winding up, then pinning to cool," instructs Marjan. "Spray hair with a hairspray, release pins, then brush through. Pin away a section in the front to frame the face, then gather hair at the back of the head and twist upwards. Secure the hair with bobby pins and use your fingers to separate curls at the top of the head. Finish with an extra mist of hairspray."

Clip-Ins

Everett says that added volume is about to be all the rage. "It's all about the details this fall," she explains.

Depending on the style, she'll use extensions to create ponytails and add volume to braids. For the back sections of the hair, she's a fan of  Raw Luxury by Lorin clip-in hair extensions, which she likes to pair with the Ouidad Coil Infusion Give A Boost Styling and Shaping Gel Cream to shape the natural hair and extensions." Glossy, Slightly Textured Hair

Give the hair a slight bend to get this ultra-trendy style, which Capri says creates a sexy undone look that anyone can achieve at home. "It's perfectly imperfect," she explains.

To get the look, she says to start by spraying IN COMMON Magic Myst on damp hair to protect it from the heat and detangle. "Follow with R+Co DALLAS Thickening Spray on your roots, rough dry your hair upside down, then blowout each section with a Revlon blowdry brush," she says. "Pick up a 1.25 iron medium heat and start waving with a loose clamp, leaving 1" of your ends out." To finish the look, she says to add a bit of Oribe Dry Texture Spray at the roots and then shake it out for the ultimate undone look.

Sleek, Low Buns

The "clean girl aesthetic" is here to stay — at least for fall. "Buns will be making a comeback this fall with people wanting to feel polished and put together," explains O'Connor. "It's a simple, quick, and easy hairstyle that can elevate any look."

To recreate, she suggests starting out by using Vavoom Extra Hold Freezing Spray to gather the hair into a low pony to slick back the front. "Then, take the ponytail and twirl around to secure with a bobby pin," she instructs. "Release the two front pieces to have that 90's Y2k aesthetic if desired."
