At only 20-years-old, Zendaya is well on her way to becoming a hair and beauty icon. But in between acting, modeling, and working on her fashion line, Zendaya still makes time to educate the people.

In a new video on her official website, Zendaya breaks down the difference between hair extensions, weaves, and wigs. Yes, they’re all fake hair, and no, they’re not all the same.

“There’s so much hair involved in my content,” she starts off. (Same.) Then she jumps into the jargon-heavy world of hair maintenance. If you ever wanted to know the difference between tracks and clips, or what type of wig to wear when you’re looking to get dramatic, let Zendaya be your guide. And because she doesn’t want you asking why her hair is the way it is, she also shares the big secret behind “how black girls get their hair so curly.” We won’t spoil it here, but don’t worry, it’s something you definitely have sitting around at home.

Zendaya isn’t shy about the work she’s put in to love her natural hair, and she’s encouraging others to do the same. She recently spoke about her beauty journey in an interview with People StyleWatch last year, “Growing up, I wasn’t very confident in my curls. It wasn’t like the hair that girls around me had. And nobody really knew what to do with my hair. My mom is white and my dad is black — they have two very different hair types. So we learned how to manage my hair together, and I also watched YouTube videos to find easy styles to do.”

As Zendaya has proven in the past, hair can also make a political statement. At her first Golden Globes appearance, host Giuliana Rancic “joked” that the dreadlocks she wore on the red carpet smelled of “patchouli oil or weed.” Zendaya hit back with a strong statement reminding Rancic, critics and fans that “there is already harsh criticism of African American hair in society without the help of ignorant people who choose to judge others based on the curl of their hair.”

The best way to fight against ignorance is education, so we commend Zendaya for bringing her hair knowledge to the people. Now it’s up to you to learn the right way to sew in a weave.
