This 10-Day Adventure Will Take You Through Egypt During the 2027 Solar Eclipse
Since last year’s solar eclipse cause a massive travel boom, it’s never too early to start thinking about 2027’s celestial event and where in the world you want to experience it.
Luxury travel operator Geographic Expeditions has unveiled a new itinerary aimed at just that: The company, which specializes in curated adventures, will be taking guests to the best vantage points across ancient Egypt to witness the solar eclipse in 2027. As previously mentioned, the 10-day journey doesn’t kick off for another two years, however, that’s because it’s scheduled to align perfectly with the phenomenon, which is expected to peak in Luxor, a city on the east bank of the Nile River.

Joining the voyage will be certified Egyptologists in addition to Ed Krupp, the long-time director of the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles and the resident astronomer for the trip who can shed some light on the relationship between ancient Egyptian civilization and the cosmos. The adventure will begin in Cairo on July 17, 2027, where guests will jet off to Aswan before boarding a private dahabeya—a traditional wooden river boat that sails up and down the Nile—for four nights.
During the cruise, expect beachside dinners under the stars, stops at under-the-radar villages, and visits to temples. For example, in Edfu you’ll get to check out the Temple of Horus, dating back to 55 BCE. There are also rows of tombs at El Kaab to explore and exclusive plans to tour lesser-known heritage sites such as Jebel Silsilah and the Speos of Horemheb.
Once travelers arrive in Luxor, they’ll be stationed on a private rooftop overlooking the Valley of the Kings for the main celestial event, which is estimated to last nearly six-and-a-half minutes. Additional luxury accommodations along the way include the five-star InterContinental Citystars Cairo and Hotel Al Moudira.
“This journey is a testament to GeoEx’s commitment to delivering unparalleled travel experiences that blend exploration, education, and wonder,” said CEO Brady Binstadt in a statement. “From the cultural richness of Egypt’s ancient sites to the awe-inspiring solar eclipse, this itinerary is designed to inspire and transform.”
GeoEx’s Egypt’s Eclipse: Ancient Sands & Cosmic Stories itinerary is priced at $22,250 per person. The official dates are July 27 to August 4, 2027, and the booking link will be live on operator’s website on February 11. And if 2024’s solar eclipse is anything to go by, it’s better to snag a spot sooner rather than later.
