10 Look-alike Dog Breeds that Are Hard to Tell Apart
While every dog breed is unique, there are some that have very similar appearances. From the French Bulldog and Boston Terrier, to the Whippet and Italian Greyhound, some dogs share characteristics which make them look the same.
Whether it's their muscular frames or shiny coats, can you tell these pups apart from each other?
Go on, see how many you know...
1. English Springer Spaniel and Welsh Springer Spaniel
While both known for being hunters, these two breeds were developed in different areas and for different purposes. The English Springer Spaniel (left) is best known for its energetic nature, while the Welsh Springer (right) is more calm and easy-going. Both, however, make excellent family dogs to adopt.
2. Whippet and Italian Greyhound
Think these two breeds look similar? Whippets (left) are smaller than the Greyhound but larger than Italian Greyhounds (right). The next time you get them confused, be sure to play close attention to their size — it's a real giveaway.
3. French Bulldog and Boston Terrier
At first glance, you might confuse these two pups for twins but there are some key indicators that can help you to identify them. French Bulldogs (left) are known for having a bigger bone structure, while Boston Terriers (right) have longer legs, rounder heads and ears which point out more.
4. Cane Corso and Boxer
While these dogs look fairly similar from afar, Cane Corsos (left) are generally larger than Boxer dogs (right). Some other tell-tale features that will help you to identify them include Corsos' cropped ears and a Boxer's flatter snout.
5. Lhasa Apso and Shih Tzu
These gorgeous pups are incredibly hard to tell apart, thanks to their closely intertwined ancestries. It might take a trained eye to distinguish them from one another, but if you look closely at their face you'll see that Lhasa Apsos (left) have longer snouts, while the Shih Tzu (right) has a softer, silkier coat.
