If there’s one thing that we know about working from home, it’s that comfort is key.
Being comfortable (but not too comfortable) while typing away on your laptop at the kitchen table is just as important as it would be if you were sitting at a desk in an office.
And since most employers don’t really mind what you wear while working from home (as long as your work gets done), it can be tempting to fall into a uniform of sweatpants and pyjamas.
Although the dress-up on top/dress-down on the bottom trend has helped many people save time, match their mood, and maintain some kind of “normalcy,” experts say there are benefits to keeping up with routine.
According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), preserving the boundaries between loungewear and workwear (and lounging and working) can help eliminate anxiety and stress, especially if you’re not used to being in such an isolated environment.
“You don’t have to put on a suit, but wearing casual Friday work clothes instead of sweats will serve as a cue to start the work day,” wrote Lynne S. Gots, Ph.D., on NAMI’s blog.
If you’re not sold on changing out of your favourite comfy clothes, we’ve got the perfect solution for you: pants that look presentable but feel just like pyjamas.
