10 Valentine’s Day candles you'll want to keep long into the spring
Whether you're single, celebrating with friends or cosying up with a partner, a candle's flickering light is a simple way to create a relaxed and cosy atmosphere on Valentine’s Day — or any day.
Candles are a home decor staple and allow you to create a different ambience with each scent. Rose and peony are classic floral Valentine's smells, while muskier picks like sandalwood and amber provide a deeper, warmer, woodier feel.
Whatever your go-to, there are many ways to incorporate candles into your Valentine's decor — and you can, of course, include your favourites whether they're traditional or not.
How to look after your candles
It's important to look after your candles so they last as long as possible and retain their scent throw (the strength of the fragrance). To keep your candle at its best:
Trim the wick by about 5mm before burning to prevent black smoke and soot marks.
When you first light a candle, let it burn for a couple of hours to ensure the top layer of wax has melted fully. This helps to create a more even burn next time you use it.
Keep candles away from windows or fans, as moving air can disturb the flame and cause black soot to stain the jar.
After use, put the lid back on to stop dust from settling on the wax. If it gets grubby, gently wipe it with a damp cloth.

The Love Candle by Maegen

Spread the love with Oliver Bonas' candle, appropriately named 'Love'. It comes in a vintage-inspired ribbed glass container and features notes of neroli and orange blossom.
Roses Scented Candle
Diptyque is another luxe candle brand we love, and for good reason: the scents are simply beautiful. The brand's Baies candle is one of our favourites, but for Valentine's Day, we'll be lighting this rose-scented candle, housed in their iconic glass jar.
Ellipse Hyponflora Jar Candle
The aptly named Woodwick candle's unique selling point is its wooden wick, which crackles and flickers as it burns, creating an undeniably cosy atmosphere. Packed with tonka bean, jasmine, and pear, it'll truly up the comfort factor for your romantic night in.
Blomus Fraga Scented 3 Wick Candle - Fig
This large, fig-scented, three-wick candle is a more reasonably priced option. The pretty pink votive makes it a real statement piece that'll look lovely on a coffee table or side bench.
