Looking to level up your spring perfume lineup? Just as you’re tempted to overhaul your entire wardrobe, the same applies to your fragrance collection.

According to Roger Schmid, a Bluemercury fragrance expert and consultant, the universal urge for a spring scent revamp is tied to what’s happening outside. “After winter, we’re all looking forward to going back into nature, changing clothes, and going outside,” he says. “And consequently, we’re attracted to perfumes that transmit this rejuvenation and re-connection to nature.”

If you consider the focus of fragrances for spring—all things gardens and florals—it’s no wonder we all want to spritz on a new scent and capture all the warm weather vibes. “Gardens are the closest link that humans can have to nature, and spring brings them to life with an explosion of colors and scents,” Schmid says. “Perfumers all over the world associate spring with flowers—from rose to wisteria and all sorts of other floral combinations.” Almira Armstrong, a fragrance developer and founder of Lumira Atelier, adds that “crafting a spring-centric perfume involves a delicate balance of floral, citrus, green, and fruity notes to evoke the essence of the season,” she explains. “Floral accords like jasmine, rose, and lily of the valley symbolize renewal and femininity; Citrus notes, such as bergamot and lemon, add freshness and vitality; and green and herbal accents, like mint and basil, capture the verdant landscapes of spring, grounding the fragrance in nature’s embrace.”

Here, fragrance pros share the best spring scents. Plus, we asked each of them to share precisely why every recco is pure olfactory perfection for the spring season and beyond.

Schmid is all about this perfume, which “was originally inspired by Audrey Hepburn, known for her elegance and subtle style,” he says. “Creed Spring Flower is meant to transport you to a quintessential English garden,” explains Schmid. “It’s a fruity and floral combination of apple as well as melon and peach, followed by a delicate jasmine and a beautiful rose.”

Diptyque L’Ombre Dans L’Eau Eau De Toilette

According to Schmid, this spring scent has been one of his favorites for many years. “It is a very unusual perfume combining rose and blackcurrant,” he notes. “The idea behind the scent is a scene—a painting—describing the spring breeze and the atmosphere you would feel sitting under a tree on a small river bank.”

Arquiste L'Or de Louis

Arquiste

“This is a rich orange blossom scent with a honeycomb note and an elegant, woody base that makes it long-lasting and decadent,” says Carlos Huber, a fragrance developer and creator Arquiste Parfumeur, of the 2024 winner of the Indie Fragrance of the Year by the Fragrance Foundation. “It’s inspired by Versailles and its famous Orangery, it’s super unisex and striking.”

Schmid explains that the gardens of the Cote d’Azur inspired this unique spring scent. “BDK Citrus Riviera represents a favorite subject by perfumers: the Mediterranean garden,” he says. “This one is near Cap d’Antibes, a large peninsula between Antibes and Cannes, and is a garden with plenty of citrus trees, lemon, and mandarin with a touch of fig as well as woody and musky notes in the background.”

Ferragamo Signorina Unica

“For the Signorina brand, we always develop around a feminine floral and an Italian gourmand note— this is the signature element the franchise has come to know and love,” explains Walter Johnson, VP of product development at InterParfums.”In the case of Unica, we added a white azalea flower and tiramisu, staying signature to the Italian heritage.”
