This 200-Year-Old Greek Revival Home in New York’s Hudson Valley Can Be Yours for $4.45 Million
If the walls could talk, it’s safe to say that this 200-year-old Greek Revival home in West Park, New York, part of the powerfully scenic Hudson Valley, would have lots to say. The incredible mansion, currently known as Aberdeen and newly listed for $4.45 million, was built in 1828. The historic property sprawls over nine lush acres with 400 feet of private frontage along the Hudson River. The property is listed by Norah Burden and Owen Davidson of Brown Harris Stevens.
The Hudson Valley and parts of Upstate New York are often associated with the glamorous Gilded Age—Frederick Vandebilt’s opulent 54-room Beaux Arts mansion completed in the late 1890s is directly across the river—but Aberdeen predates that era by a half century. So the stories go, Frederick’s grandfather Cornelius Vanderbilt, aka The Commodore, would stop over at Aberdeen to play cards and that Henry Ford once lost the chance to purchase the property. In addition to being used as a private residence, the home has had many incarnations over its two centuries; it was once used as a school for working women—Eleanor Roosevelt even visited as a guest lecturer—and later as a massage school.

The home’s architectural integrity remains largely intact, though the interiors have been lovingly restored and updated for a modern lifestyle. Original old-world design elements are carefully fused with up-to-date fixtures and accents. One of the most striking examples of how the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries live in harmony is the kitchen, which features an original brick fireplace and reclaimed wood floors and ceiling beams, set alongside state-of-the-art appliances, including a Bertazzoni Heritage range, sleek dark green cabinetry, and marble countertops and backsplashes. Windows line each side of the room, flooding it with natural light, and most of the wood flooring in the main wing was salvaged from a 300-year-old home in Concord, Massachusetts.
The main floor’s double parlor is complete with fluted pilasters capped by flamboyant Corinthian capitals, restored plaster crown moldings, ceiling rosettes, and rose-colored marble fireplaces. The dining room also showcases original details, including original woodwork and a marble mantle, as well as a door that leads to a staircase accessing the attic and restored basement. Other rooms on this floor include a study with built-in bookshelves that are painted a deep red hue.
Upstairs there are five bedrooms, including the light-filled primary suite that overlooks the scrolls in the portico and connects to a chic bathroom with floor-to-ceiling wall tiling, a clawfoot tub, and checkered marble floors. Each bedroom has its own color scheme and charm, and all overlook the Hudson River. There’s also a cozy upstairs den tucked. Finally, the home has a finished basement with a wine cellar, tasting room, and laundry room.
An attached guesthouse is currently under construction and will feature one bedroom and a bath along with a living room and kitchenette. In total, there are six bedrooms and four full bathrooms, plus a half bathroom.
French doors open from the main level to the bluestone terrace, and there’s a rear portico with a two-story colonnade from which there’s a lovely view of the Hudson River. The shoreline is heavily vegetated, but should a future owner want to enjoy the water, marketing materials indicate there’s an opportunity to build a dock and boathouse.
