Celebrating love and kindness: 200 figurines of SINGA the Lion on display at Raffles City Singapore
SINGAPORE - CapitaLand’s Raffles City Singapore has collaborated with Singapore Kindness Movement (SKM) to launch the Arts in the City: We Love SINGApore exhibition on Friday (31st July) in commemoration of Singapore Bicentennial and celebration of Singapore’s 54th birthday.
President Halimah Yacob was there to officiate the exhibition at Raffles City shopping mall, which features 200 figurines of Singapore’s iconic mascot for kindness and graciousness – Singa the Lion, specially designed by individuals from all walks of life.
They conveyed what kindness and being gracious means to them through hand painting and designing 40cm-tall 3D Singa the Lion figurines. We were treated to a display of different designs from people of different professions and got to understand their take on the virtues of kindness and graciousness.

President Halimah said, “CapitaLand, a long-time partner of the President’s Challenge, is an exemplary company that not only builds inclusive developments but also embraces diversity and inclusivity through programmes by its philanthropic arm, CapitaLand Hope Foundation. I hope CapitaLand can continue their efforts in empowering the disadvantaged in Singapore.”
At the end of the exhibition, the figurines will find permanent homes with interested adopters and all proceeds will go towards President’s Challenge. The figurines will be up for adoption at a minimum sum of S$88 each on a first-come-first-serve basis, subject to availability. Yahoo Singapore on the meaning behind their mascot:
The concept behind the artwork is building a better Singapore, together. As per Singa’s shirt, our entire Yahoo office penned wishes on how we would like Singapore to progress. Our multicultural office is a microcosm of Singapore, as reflected in the different languages on Singa’s shirt.
National icons like our national flower, national flag, MBS, HDB, Flyer as well as Gardens by the Bay are depicted on Singa’s mane, making him distinctly Singaporean. The red cape with a letter “S” alludes to Singa’s super hero status, taking over the all-important role to make Singapore a gracious society for all.
Michelle Low on the meaning behind her mascot:
'Shhh…' is a modern and relevant representation created as a reminder for us to show kindness to others in the movie theatres by switching our phones into silent mode. Everyone can enjoy a peaceful experience movie.
Indian Heritage Centre by Brindha Menon on the meaning behind the mascot:
Little India is a historical precinct that serves as a focal point for the Indian community and functions as a vibrant and organic showcase of the community’s rich and diverse heritage. It comprises historical landmarks, temples, traditional trades and modern businesses, and it is a place where visitors can not only experience “living Indian heritage” as practised by the community but the warmth and friendliness of stakeholders, business owners and residents of Little India as they go about their daily lives. For this campaign, the centre is pleased to collaborate with local artist Brindha Menon to capture the daily acts of kindness and graciousness that bring smiles to Little India’s stakeholders, business owners, residents and visitors.
