Dr. Tayyaba Iqbal and his nurse, Madhuri, identified only by her first name, were arrested in Rampur, India, after Iqbal decapitated a baby during its delivery.
When the baby's legs emerged first, Iqbal allegedly tied a cord to its foot, and "pulled [it] out of the mother's womb forcefully."

Although there are special delivery procedures that must be taken when there is a breech birth -- when a baby is born with its bottom or feet first -- Iqbal's method disconnected the infant's body from its head, leaving the head inside the 35-year-old mother. The headless body was then tossed in a bin.

Bye the time the chief medical superintendent of the women's ward, Joshna Pant, was alerted of the situation, it was too late to save the baby. She did, however, assure that arrangements were made to surgically remove the infant's head from its mother.
Pant reportedly added that she was "at a loss" for an explanation of Iqbal's catastrophic behavior.
Allegedly, Iqbal and Madhuri were arrested for "culpable homicide not amounting to murder" as well as "act done with intent to prevent child being born alive or to cause it to die after birth."
