The 2024 Golden Globe Winners - Here's Everything You Need To Know
Award season is upon us now following last night’s Golden Globes.
The film and television shows in contention were announced in Los Angeles last year, with Past Lives, Oppenheimer and Killers of the Flower Moon all among the blockbusters nominated for the Best Picture, Drama gong.
The nominations for this year’s ceremony comes after a membership shake-up for the ceremony’s voting body, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), which was accused of a lack of diversity in a 2022 Los Angeles Times exposé. In the investigation, it was reported that not one of the group’s 87 members were Black.
In the wake of the report, stars steered clear of events associated with the Golden Globes, and their publicists threatened a boycott unless reforms were undertaken. The 2022 broadcast of the ceremony on NBC was cancelled as a result, with CBS hosting this year’s ceremony.
Indeed, the 2024 Golden Globes notably featured two new prizes alongside all the traditional film and TV categories: Cinematic and Box Office Achievement in Motion Pictures and Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television.
The BAFTAs and the SAG Awards will follow the Golden Globes, and are often seen as a precursor for what is considered award season’s main event, the Oscars, which takes place on 10 March.
