24th annual Oktoberfest brings traditional German fun to downtown O’Fallon

The fall season is nearly here and with it the arrival of the season’s festivities.

St. Clare Parish is bringing Oktoberfest to downtown O’Fallon for its 24th year.

The family-friendly event takes place Saturday, Sept. 28, and brings with it the food, games and music, according to a release.

“We pride ourselves on offering a family-friendly festival with music, games, food and fun for people of all ages,” Oktoberfest chairman Tom Knaust stated in the release. “We think this will be our best-ever Oktoberfest.”

What folks can look forward to:

  • Food – German-style pork dinner (4-6:30 p.m.), bratwurst, homemade sauerkraut, hamburgers, spiral spuds, pretzels, snow cones, cotton candy, desserts and more;

  • Drink – Beer. A selection of German beer on tap in the bier und weingarten;

  • Live Music – Starting at 4 p.m. the Belleville Blas Kapple German Band gets the party started. The Pedestrians take the stage, rocking 7-10 p.m.;

  • Games – Basket raffle, I Dood It, bingo, cake walk, silent auction, poker, raffles;

  • For the kids – Pony rides, inflatables, extreme activities, games, face painting, fun run;

  • 5k Run – Registration starts at 3 p.m. Runner hit the pavement at 4 p.m. The kids’ fun run starts right after the 5K.

The Oktoberfest event is the church’s biggest fundraiser of the year with proceeds helping to pay the parish mortgage, according to the release.

The St. Clare Oktoberfest takes place 4-10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Third and Cherry streets in downtown O’Fallon.
