The $3.49 ALDI Find That's So Good I Always Get 2 at a Time
It's the ultimate summer treat. My kid eats two at a time, and I understand why.
Ice cream is probably my husband's and son’s favorite late-night snack, and my family is a big fan of the entire Sundae Shoppe ice cream line at ALDI. Of all the options, we love ALDI’s Sundae Shoppe Stracciatella Dipped Cookie Sandwiches the most. Sundae Shoppe’s various ice cream offerings are excellent, and this special ice cream, studded with little bits of chocolate, is the star in the world of ice cream sandwiches.
What I Love About ALDI's Stracciatella Dipped Cookie Sandwiches
A stracciatella ice cream is sandwiched between two cocoa cookies, and one end of the bar is dipped in chocolate and studded with bits of hazelnuts and wafer crumbs. If you enjoy the hazelnut chocolate flavors of Nutella, then you’ll adore this ice cream treat.
A pack of six ice cream sandwiches costs only $3.49, and technically, one sandwich equals one serving. My 14-year-old son, however, usually eats two bars at a time or in very short order—as in, “Hey, Mom, can I have an ice cream sandwich for a snack?” and then 15 minutes later, “Hey, Mom, can I have another?”
It’s pretty easy to see why he eats two at a time. It’s kind of hard to stop at just one. They’re delectable.
They’re also a sophisticated twist on a typical ice cream sandwich. Calling them ice cream sandwiches is a bit of a misnomer—they’re half ice cream sandwich and half ice cream bar, and they’re all sorts of delicious.
These will make great treats to take to our local park's weekly music festival on Fridays. They’re also perfect for playdates or when a bunch of your teenage kid’s friends hang out, but they're sophisticated enough to pair with espresso martinis (especially if you add a bit of hazelnut liqueur) for an easy dessert.
I recommend buying two packages at a time, as they seem to disappear rapidly. Do as I do and hide one package in the downstairs freezer. Otherwise, you might not get to enjoy them because, by the time you get around to eating one, your family will already have devoured them.
