For 38 years, this ice cream shop in Miami Beach served up sweetness. Now it’s closed

For 38 years, The Frieze Ice Cream Factory served up cones to locals and tourists on their way to and from Lincoln Road in Miami Beach.

Now, like so many other landmarks around town, the shop at 1626 Michigan Ave. is closed.

The shop, which opened on a very different Miami Beach in 1986, announced its closing via its Instagram account, inviting fans to share some of their favorite moments and writing that “Our hearts are overflowing with gratitude for the unwavering support you have shown us over the years.”

“After 38 wonderful years, it is with both joy and sadness that we announce the closing of The Frieze,” the post said. “What started as a small dream has grown into a happy place for many, thanks to your incredible support and love. The countless smiles, shared laughter, and sweet moments we’ve experienced together have made this journey truly special. The Frieze has been more than just an ice cream shop — it has become a cherished part of this vibrant community, a place where memories were made and joy was shared.”

The ice cream shop didn’t say what led to the closure, instead thanking patrons for their support.

“Your love and patronage have been the foundation of our success, and we are forever grateful for the trust and loyalty you’ve given us. We treasure the friendships formed, the celebrations shared, and the community we’ve built together. As we close this chapter, we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making The Frieze a part of your lives. The joy, sweetness, and love you’ve brought into our shop will continue to inspire us.”

One favorite moment for many fans of The Frieze came during the shop’s 25th anniversary celebration in 2012. The Frieze teamed up with then-Miami Heat star Chris Bosh and his foundation Team Tomorrow. Bosh unveiled a new flavor, Bosh Frieze Frenzy, and worked behind the counter, scooping free ice cream for everyone who showed up. The ice cream must have been good luck: The Heat won NBA championships in 2012 and 2013.

The ice cream spot wasn’t only popular with locals. In 2016, Beyoncé, Jay Z, their daughter Blue Ivy and some family members stopped by for some ice cream on a Saturday afternoon. They even sat at a table like regulars.
