After 4 years in Bellefonte, boutique moves to State College. ‘It just makes more sense’
By A Thread Boutique — a women’s clothing boutique that started in Bellefonte — has packed its bags and moved locations across Centre County to State College.
After spending four years at its prior two locations along High Street and West Bishop Street in Bellefonte Borough, boutique owner Emily Boone decided that it was time for a change in scenery for an assortment of reasons.
The move to the plaza at 1341 S. Atherton St., in a space that was formerly home to AJ Fine’s Sample Sale, was made official on Aug. 31.
“While yes, the Bellefonte location was nice, I definitely think that there were a few reasons for the move to State College,” Boone said. “We send out a semi-annual customer survey asking for some constructive criticisms for the store, and a lot of the responses had to do with parking — the old store just had municipal or parallel parking, and that kept some of our customers from stopping by. We were also just kind of running out of room for everything and needed more space. It just makes more sense.”
Boone also said that because of the move, she now has more creative freedom with how she wants the boutique to look.
The boutique offers an assortment of women’s clothes and accessories for a demographic that Boone feels isn’t represented well enough in the State College area.
“In my opinion, it seems like a lot of the stores around State College cater primarily to college students — which makes sense with Penn State being right down the road,” Boone said. “However, what we want to do here is provide women coming out of college, all the way up to the elderly, with clothing that’s not only unique, but comfortable for them to wear.”
In an effort to do that, Boone makes sure that she gets new clothing arrivals in weekly, with updates on the new arrivals being posted on the boutique’s website, as well its Facebook, Instagram and TikTok pages.
The boutique is located at 1341 S. Atherton St., Suite 8, between Little Caesars Pizza and Talbots. It’s open Wednesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and could soon expand its hours upon the arrival of new hires.
