This $5.2 Million Lakeside Mansion Is Nestled in a Historic Resort Enclave Near Savannah

Automobile pioneer Henry Ford and his wife Clara began to spend the winter months in the Savannah, Georgia, suburb of Richmond Hill during the 1920s. Their first home there, now part of the private Ford Field and River Club, came up for sale earlier this year for $4.5 million, and now, just a few hundred yards away, another stately home has splashed onto the market for $5.2 million.

With ties to Native American history and Civil War figures, Richmond Hill is the ideal place for the Colonial-style mansion at 1572 Dublin Drive, which looks historic but was actually built in 2000 by architect Jim Strickland of Historical Concepts, an Atlanta- and New York-based firm focused on creating homes “inspired by historic precedent.” The home sits on more than two acres, and its location affords unobstructed views of Lake Clara, which sits close to the 294-mile-long Ogeechee River. Kacey Howard of Seabolt Real Estate holds the listing.

French doors in the fireside living room open to a terrace overlooking Lake Clara.

An expansive courtyard provides 180-degree views of its classical facade. The mansion spans 8,232 square feet with five bedrooms and seven baths. Soaring ceilings and glossy wood floors trail the home, leading to grand entertaining areas such as the formal living and dining rooms. Both spaces feature one of at least five fireplaces spread across the indoor and outdoor areas, making for cozy get-togethers. French doors open to a patio from the chef’s kitchen, including a massive island and top-of-the-line appliances.

A sunroom, office, and den make up the abode’s most unique spaces, with the latter two showcasing exceptional millwork from crown moldings to cabinetry. The office captivates with a cornflower-like shade of blue covering the main entertainment console, as well as the walls leading to a bar area. Much like the sunroom, the primary suite appears flooded with natural light, thanks to arched windows and an open floor plan. A massive 612-bottle wine cooler rounds out the interiors’ key amenities.

The back of the house spills onto a massive terrace with an outdoor fireplace and a view of the lake, while a manicured lawn rolls down to the shore of Lake Clara. Members of the Ford Field and River Club also have access to a list of amenities such as an equestrian center, deepwater marina, and 250-acre golf course by late architect Pete Dye.
