5 Reasons to Drop Everything and Binge Atlanta, According to Star Brian Tyree Henry

It's official: FX's freshman series Atlanta has been one of the breakout hits of the fall TV season. We were all so intrigued by the concept and, clearly, the rest of the country was too because the show has been pulling in strong ratings ever since its debut episode in early September. The series (which already has a second season order) follows Donald Glover as Earn Marks, a young Atlanta native navigating the learning curve of adulthood, including co-parenting a young daughter with his on-again, off-again girlfriend Van (played by Zazie Beetz) and wheeling and dealing with his cousin Alfred (portrayed by Brian Tyree Henry) and offbeat friend Darius (played by Keith Stanfield).

As much as we love Earn and all his hilariously awkward quirks, the character who has surprisingly won us over is Earn's cousin Alfred, a burgeoning rapper (known on the scene as Paper Boi) who is finally gaining a little traction in the local music game. Everything about him is so distinctly Atlanta, from his Southern vernacular to his uniform of crisp tennis shoes, jean shorts, and polo shirts. But our favorite characteristic? The seriously funny guy is unapologetically real.

We wanted to dive a little deeper into Alfred's character so we went straight to the source. We caught up with Henry, who shared the behind-the-scenes scoop about one of our favorite new shows. Read on for the five reasons Henry thinks you need to binge the show now and remember: We're just under a week away from the finale, so if you're late to the game and still haven't tuned in, you have a few days to get up to speed before the season's finale episode Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 10 p.m. ET on FX.
